Airflo Skagit Scout Shooting Heads
Airflo Skagit Scout Shooting Heads
Extra-compact Skagit Head for one-hand spey and short two-hand rods.
As casting with Skagit heads with short two-hand rods and single-hand rods continues to grow in popularity, the need for a line specialized for the task grew with it.
The Skagit Scout is the shortest head we have ever produced. It’s the perfect length for easy casts on your favorite switch rod, compact spey, or one-hand spey rod. Its extra-compact length requires minimal casting room, opening up water previously un-fishable by longer lines.
The Skagit Scout comes in a wide range of sizes from 150gr to 540gr. As with all Skagit-style heads, it is exclusively designed to be used with a sink tip. Pair it up with a few of our sink tips (or PolyLeaders for the smallest sizes) to dial-in your favorite fly-swinging fisheries!
Taper Design & Features
Features welded loops on both ends
Front Taper: The aggressive front taper allows for maximum turnover power for sink tip rigs.
Belly: The condensed belly minimizes the space needed for easy casting.
Rear Taper: The condensed rear taper makes for quick and easy loading and maximim shootability.
Rigging tips:
Sink tips: All Skagit heads are designed to exclusively be used with sink tips
PolyLeaders: PolyLeaders are too small for all but the smallest size Scout Heads. They are a good solution for around 240gr and below if using the heavier-size PolyLeaders (salmon and salmon extra-strong)
Running Lines: The Skagit Scout includes the head only and requires a running line. Please browse our running line options to see which one suits your purposes.
This line features the following technologies:
Climate Control - Ultra Supple
Our Ultra Supple coating represents a major breakthrough in fly line performance. The low modules coating maintains its suppleness even in extreme cold conditions. Thus helping to maintain needle sharp loops and minimal line memory even on the coldest days.
Power Core
You’ll be more impressed with the lines incredible suppleness and handling performance even in the harshest of conditions. With only 6% stretch, our Power Core braid improves casting control, sensitivity and hook set.
100% PVC Free
The original “PVC Free” Polymer coated fly lines, we at Airflo utilize solvent free Polyurethane as the base material in all our fly lines. When we originally researched our coating technology over 20 years ago, we wanted the best possible fly line material available. A coating that would be stronger than our competitors, could resist DEET and ultimately fight off the long term effects of UV. Polyurethane provided us with this and much, much more.
Micro Loop
The ability to fuse Polyurethane post production led to the development of Micro Loops. Showing no visible signs of a step down, Micro loops blend into the main line giving smooth transition to your leader and protect your fly line from the effects of capillary action.
Flexi Loop
Not relying on solvents to make it supple, Polyurethane flexes better and lasts longer than any other material we know. Our new Flexi Loop system incorporates actual fly line core into the loop and with our unique fusing process, creates a seamless weld that really is bullet proof.
We love these lines for single handed rods and switch rods 11’ and less, as the shorter skagit head works great on shorter rods (but not that great on 12’+ rods).
